Welcome to Seido Karate

Te Awamutu

Seido Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art founded by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura in 1976. Seido has a strong focus on developing & improving individual's physical fitness & mental well being.

Seido Karate was first started in Te Awamutu in 1980 by Shuseki Shihan Michael McIvor (7th Dan Black Belt). The club has produced a solid list of Black Belts over the past 44 years & stays dedicated towards improving the fitness & confidence of all students who walk through our doors.

Seido Karate Te Awamutu's classes are a mix of improving karate techniques, learning Seido syllabus, fitness, pad work and contact sparring (green belt & above). Being a traditional martial art, Seido Karate Te Awamutu practice Japanese dojo etiquette during training and classes typically run on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. Gradings can run on these evenings, however may run on weekends depending on candidate numbers and ranks.
